MacGillivray Law Journeys Grant

MacGillivray Injury Law is proud to announce the MacGillivray Law Journeys Grant, a $150,000 funding initiative dedicated to supporting non-profits and registered charities based in Atlantic Canada on their journey to bettering our communities. Each organization can request up to $75,000 in funding through this program.

Our Vision

At MacGillivray Law, we believe in the power of community organizations to create meaningful change. As a personal injury law firm, we aim to make a direct impact on the lives of our clients by getting them fairly compensated for their injuries. In addition to that, we believe that we have a duty to the communities we work in to support non-profit and charity projects that improve the quality of life of our neighbours.

The Journeys Grant recognizes that every organization is on its own unique path toward making a difference. We want to support these journeys by providing financial resources to help turn innovative ideas into reality.

Who Can Apply

  • Non-profit organizations and registered charities based in Atlantic Canada
  • Organizations with projects that directly benefit communities within Atlantic Canada
  • Applicants must have valid charitable registration numbers or non-profit status

Our Process

  1. We will accept proposals until 11:59 PM on January 9th, 2026. We have designed the proposal requirements to be simple and straightforward so organizations of all sizes can apply.
  2. We will assess the applications based on three criteria:
    • Innovation: How is your project seeking to address a problem within your community in a new or innovative way?
    • Impact: Is your project going to help a lot of people in a small way or a few people in significant way? We want to fund projects that make a meaningful impact, let us know how you plan to accomplish this. When evaluating impact, we consider the relationship between your funding request, the number of people who will benefit, and the depth of that benefit. A strong proposal demonstrates thoughtful balance between these factors—whether reaching many with modest support or providing transformative assistance to a smaller group.
    • Sustainability: How will this project continue to benefit the community beyond the initial funding period? Tell us about your long-term vision and plans for maintaining the initiative.
  3. Our review committee will select a shortlist of 10 finalists based on these criteria.
  4. The shortlisted proposals will be shared with the community for a public voting period. This gives Atlantic Canadians a voice in determining which projects receive funding.
  5. Based on the voting results, we will fund projects in order of community ranking while aiming to support as many worthy initiatives as possible within our $150,000 cap. We encourage applicants to be mindful and efficient with their budget requests, as this approach allows us to extend our impact across more community projects. In some cases, we may skip a higher-ranked project with a large funding request if that allows us to fund multiple smaller projects further down the list. This strategy is designed to maximize the collective benefit to Atlantic Canadian communities while still honoring the community’s voting preferences.
