Steven Scruton is a Partner at MacGillivray Injury & Insurance Law in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador. Throughout his career, Steven has always enjoyed using his legal expertise to find practical solutions to whatever problem a client is facing, whether it is seeking compensation in the wake of an accident, or helping clients when their disability claim has been denied.
When working for his clients, Steven brings a wealth of experience to the table in the areas of personal injury and insurance law. He earned his law degree at the University of New Brunswick in 2007, where he won numerous scholarships and awards, including multiple prizes in trial practice. He was called to the Newfoundland and Labrador Bar in 2008 and began his career at one of the largest law firms in Atlantic Canada before opening and running a legal office for one of the leading insurance companies in the market.
Steven’s previous work with insurance companies provides immense value for his clients. Steven knows how those companies evaluate claims, what a file looks like to an adjuster, where the pressure points in a negotiation actually are, and what a defence lawyer is looking for. When he tells a client what their claim is worth and how the insurer is likely to respond, he is speaking from a place of experience and knowledge.
In addition to his direct work, Steven has been actively involved with the Canadian Bar Association, the Atlantic Provinces Trial Lawyers Association and the Law Society of Newfoundland and Labrador and has spoken at numerous conferences and taught at the Bar Admission Course for new lawyers.
At MacGillivray Law, Steven sees his mission as straightforward: reduce the suffering his clients are experiencing and make sure their voice is heard. He cares deeply about people and believes everyone deserves to be treated fairly.
When he isn’t working for his clients, Steve spends most of his time with his family, including his wife Amanda and their two children, Norah and Nathan, along with their family goldendoodle, Charlotte.
