I am a Partner at MacGillivray Injury & Insurance Law and the team lead for the Long-Term Disability (LTD) claims. I represent people whose long-term disability benefits have been denied, terminated or delayed by an insurance company.
While I have handled a range of personal injury and insurance claims, including motor vehicle accidents claims, slip and fall claims, as well as sexual assault claims, my practice is primarily focused on leading MacGillivray Injury & Insurance Law’s long-term disability team.
I work with clients who are unable to continue working because of chronic pain, serious physical injuries, mental health conditions, neurological conditions, post-concussion symptoms and other illnesses or disabilities.
A denial of long-term disability benefits can leave a person without income at the same time they are dealing with significant medical and personal challenges. My role is to help clients understand their insurance policies, challenge unfair decisions and present the necessary evidence to properly establish their claims.
I have 29 years of legal experience in Canada and Pakistan. I practiced law for ten years in Pakistan, where I prosecuted and defended criminal matters and represented clients in constitutional cases.
Upon immigrating to Canada in 2007, I joined MacGillivray Injury & Insurance Law the same year as a Research Analyst until being called to the Nova Scotia Bar in 2010.
Since being called to the Nova Scotia Bar, I have represented clients before the Nova Scotia Supreme Court and the Nova Scotia Court of Appeal. My background in advocacy, legal research, evidence and litigation allows me to approach disability claims strategically, from the initial review through negotiations, discovery examination, mediations, Judicial Settlement Conferences, and trial preparation.
I believe the law must apply equally to everyone, including large and powerful insurance companies, and that every client deserves to be treated with dignity, concern and respect.
In 2014, I received the Gary J. Bigg Memorial Scholarship through the Canadian Caucus of the American Association for Justice.
I was recognized as a Leading Practitioner in the 2022 Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory.
Similarly, I have been recognized by Best Lawyers in Canada since 2023.
