Daniel Wood

Partner

Daniel Wood is a Partner at MacGillivray Injury & Insurance Law in Halifax, Nova Scotia. He has 12 years of legal experience and has practised almost exclusively in personal injury and insurance law since 2017, representing people who have been injured in accidents and people whose disability benefits have been denied or cut off by an insurance company.

His practice covers motor vehicle accident claims, slip and fall claims, and denied or terminated long-term disability benefits. Most of Daniel’s clients are dealing with an insurer for the first time. The insurer does this every day. A large part of his job is closing that gap: explaining what a policy or the accident benefits scheme actually entitles someone to, what the evidence will have to establish, and what a fair result looks like before anyone puts a number on the table.

Daniel was called to the Nova Scotia Bar in 2014, having articled with the firm’s founding partner, Jamie MacGillivray. He has also practised at another Halifax firm across a broader range of civil litigation, including estate litigation and family law, which widened the kinds of hearings and negotiations he is comfortable running.

His clients hear from him directly and know where their claim stands. Daniel would rather deliver news a client does not want than leave them guessing about their own case.

He joined the education committee of the Atlantic Provinces Trial Lawyers Association in 2018.

An insurance company is a business, and delay costs it very little. It can cost an injured person their treatment, their savings or their home. That imbalance is the reason Daniel does this work.

Daniel likes to spend his free time with his wife, Claire, and their cats. If it’s summer, you’ll likely catch him near the ocean.
