Angus Smith

Partner

Angus Smith is a Partner at MacGillivray Injury & Insurance Law and practises out of the firm’s Moncton office, serving clients across New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. He represents people who have been injured in accidents and people in disputes with insurance companies over the benefits they are owed.

Angus is originally from Antigonish, Nova Scotia. He was called to the Nova Scotia Bar in 2016 and to the New Brunswick Bar in 2020, and has 10 years of legal experience. He has represented clients before the Court of King’s Bench of New Brunswick, the Supreme Court of Nova Scotia and the Nova Scotia Court of Appeal.

Angus is a person with a disability, and that shapes how he practises. He knows what it is to have your capacity assessed by people who have never met you, and how much of an insurance dispute is really an argument about whether someone is believed. Representing injured and disabled people against insurers is not an area of law he fell into. It is the work he wanted.

Insurance companies are businesses, and a claim that is delayed long enough often becomes a claim that is abandoned. Angus’s job is to make sure that does not happen to his clients.

He is a member of the Atlantic Provinces Trial Lawyers Association and the Ontario Trial Lawyers Association.
