Deepali Kashyap

Associé

Deepali Kashyap is an Associate at MacGillivray Injury & Insurance Law in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and a member of the firm’s long-term disability team. Her practice is devoted to long-term disability claims, representing people whose benefits have been denied, terminated or delayed by an insurance company.

Deepali has twelve years of legal experience, which began in India. She earned a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Law from Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University in New Delhi in 2014, was enrolled as an advocate that year, and went on to a Master of Laws at the same university in 2016. She appeared before district courts in New Delhi and before the Delhi High Court.

She came to Canada to continue her legal education and earned a Master of Laws at Dalhousie University in 2018. Deepali completed the National Committee on Accreditation process in 2021, was called to the Ontario Bar in 2024 and to the Nova Scotia Bar in 2025, and is a member of the Nova Scotia Barristers’ Society and the Law Society of Ontario.

She also acts for clients in Hindi. When someone is describing chronic pain, exhaustion or a mental health condition, and explaining how it has changed what they can do in a day, being able to say it in their first language matters.

A denial of long-term disability benefits usually arrives at the worst possible moment. The income stops at the same time the medical appointments, the paperwork and the uncertainty begin. Deepali’s role is to help clients understand what their policy promises, to challenge decisions the evidence does not support, and to assemble the medical and vocational proof a claim needs.

Insurance companies are large and well resourced. The people who hold their policies usually are not, and Deepali does not believe the law should treat those two positions differently.

Outside of work she spends her time with her children, Vehaan and Vanya, and enjoys exploring new cities with her partner, Ashwin.
